Fold a device
The ▾ at the left of its title, or double-click the title bar. Alt-click folds or opens every device on the track.
Sidechain Pump
An effect that ducks the track in time with the beat, like Kickstart. Timing: Kick hits restarts the curve on every kick. The Duck knob in Channel is the simpler version.
Compressor sidechain
Sidechain from, under a Compressor's knobs, makes it listen to another track, so this track ducks whenever that one plays. A muted kick still works as the trigger. Start from the Sidechain Duck preset.
FM Synth
Two oscillators (A can be bent by FM), a sub and noise, an amp ADSR, pitch and FM envelopes and a filter with its own ADSR. Note length sets how many steps a note is held, so a boom can ring for a bar or more: try the Sub Boom preset.
Horns & Brass
Trumpet, trombone, French horn, saxophone, muted trumpet and synth brass. Brightness sets how brassy it gets when blown hard (accented steps blow harder), Breath adds air, Players turns one horn into a section, Scoop bends up into each note, Fall-off drops the pitch as a note ends, and Vibrato comes in after a moment. Chord and stacked notes on a step play several horns at once.
Keys & Piano
Grand piano, electric piano, organ, plucked strings and mallets in one instrument. Chord plays a shape (like Minor 7, the house chord) on every note. Played from the keyboard or MIDI, notes on Keys, FM Synth and Pad ring while you hold the key, and a sustain pedal works.
Chords on a step
On Keys & Piano, FM Synth and Pad, click more cells in the same column of the piano roll to stack a chord on one step (up to 6 notes). Click a lit cell to take that note off. Notes you play together on the keyboard while recording land on the same step.
Octave − +
In a synth's Step sequencer: shows the piano roll an octave lower or higher, so you can draw notes there. A dot on − or + means the clip has notes down or up there.
Resize a picture
Drag the grip on the right edge of a Sound shape, Tuner or effect picture to make it wider. Double-click the grip to reset.
Pad & Drone
Notes ring for Note length steps, so notes on neighbouring steps stack into chords. Styles has chord shapes.
Cymbals & Impacts
Once for a crash, twice for a reverse cymbal. Boom adds a sub hit under the crash.
